Graphic designers Masuo Kuroda and Norio Nakamura, art director Atsuki Kikuchi, and editor Hitoshi Okamoto came to visit the workshop-completion exhibition currently taking place in the gallery space of Aoyama Book Center in Omotesando.

Takashi Homma: Which one did you like?

Masuo Kuroda: Firstly, Naoki Hata’s works using the goldfish in the tank. I think it worked as an installation.

Masuo Kuroda: And Akiko Fukami who took the projector rooms. They were good photographs.

Norio Nakamura: I liked Suzue Naka. I like the way she took the photographs in a very subtle manner.

Norio Nakamura:  I liked Yoshitaka Kato’s series of trees, with the weekday-afternoonfeel.

Norio Nakamura: And also, Rei Ryan’s work was very interesting.

Atsuki Kikuchi: Seishirō Tachikawa’s night-shots somehow left an impression.

Hitoshi Okamoto: My eye keeps going to photo-books. I would actually buy Kato’s bird series or Rei Ryan’s booklet.

Workshop-Completion Exhibition Report

Magazine “here and there” editor Nakako Hayashi, gallery producer Jun Ishida, Emon Photo Gallery producer Miho Odaka came to visit the workshop-completion exhibition currently taking place in the gallery space of Aoyama Book Center in Omotesando.

Takashi Homma: Which one did you like?

Nakako Hayashi: Firstly, Suzue Naka. I was overwhelmed by the replete “indication of presence” in the photographs. The children are absent, but somehow they’re present. My imagination surmised the density of their emotions, their lives, theirs worlds; I couldn’t leave these photographs.

Nakako Hayashi: And in terms of exhibition display, Akiko Fukami who took the projector rooms.

Jun Ishida:  I think I like this one. I can image an offer from a magazine.

Miho Odaka: I personally feel that Naoki Hata’s work had the most stability as a series. He leaves you with a kind of excitement (expectation) that he’ll come up with something again.
